Kathijoe Foster, age 59, of Baldwin, formerly of Belding, passed away late Saturday night, February 28, at Spectrum Health, Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids following a brief illness.  She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on June 6, 1955, the daughter of Herbert K. and Lorraine P. (Coleman) Chickering.  Kathijoe graduated from Belding Schools with the Class of 1973.  She married Terry Lee Foster of Greenville, Michigan, in 1972 and he survives.  Kathi worked in many capacities during her life time including jobs at Bricker Lumber and Countryside Floral in Belding and Lake–Osceola State Bank and Houseman Foods in Baldwin.  She loved flowers and gardening and for several years put that passion to work as she owned and operated Wilderness Gardens in Baldwin with her husband, Terry.  Kathi’s other interests include quilting, knitting, fishing, wood carving, and of course, her favorite activity, spending time with her grandchildren.


In addition to her husband of 42 years, Kathi leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Jana Foster of East Grand Rapids, and David (Annisa Denman) Foster of Belding, grandchildren Hannah Moore and Gabriel Foster; siblings, Lucinda K. (Victor D.) Youmans of Orleans; and a brother, Herbert Chickering, Jr., of Muskegon; a brother-in-law Tim (Theresa) Foster of Greenville; nieces, Kristina K. (Dale) Richmond, of Belding, Bradi Hooker of Greenville, Alicia Foster of Greenville, and Allison (Jeff) Ritzema of Mt. Pleasant.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a niece, Lorijoe Hooker. 


A Celebration of Kathi’s life will take place on Saturday, March 7.  The family will greet visitors at Baldwin Congregational Church, 870 Beech Street, Baldwin, Michigan 49304, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the Service beginning at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Bruce Whitney officiating.  The family will also greet friends in Belding, on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan 48809.  Interment will take place in the spring at River Ridge Cemetery, in Belding.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are welcome to consider a memorial contribution in Kathi’s memory to the The “B” Fund or Baldwin Congregational Church.  Envelopes will be available at the service or by contacting Verdun Family Funeral Home in Belding, who is caring for the arrangements at (616) 794-1300 or
