Robert P. Gasper, age 81, of Belding, passed away, unexpectedly, at home on Thursday, April 30, 2015.  He was born in Belding, on February 16, 1934, the son of Joseph and Matilda (Schueller) Gasper.  Robert attended rural Belding schools and proudly served his country in the United States Army.  He exchanged vows with Irene Elizabeth Weeks on October 29, 1960, and enjoyed 54 years of marriage with her.  Bob worked in several capacities for area manufacturing plants through the years, and retired as a Maintenance Supervisor.  When he wasn’t working his hands were still busy repairing something, making something with wood, or tending to the yard and house.  He loved to care for lawns and was caretaker and sexton for St. Joseph and St. Mary Church cemeteries for 30 years.  Bob was a member of the American Legion and of St. Mary Catholic Church in Miriam, serving the church faithfully, helping out in any way that was needed.  He enjoyed good food and traveling with Irene.  Bob loved his family dearly and had a special bond with his grandchildren who called him “chickie grampa” because he was always tending to the chickens he raised.

Robert leaves to cherish his memory, his dear wife, Irene; children Robert S. (Deborah) Gasper of Belding, Kristine (Paul) Cranmer of Nunica, Melissa (Randy) King of Lakeview and Leigh (Greg) Saxton of Lakeview; a son-in-law, Matthew D. Cooper of Belding; 19 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; a sister Doris Stout, and two sisters-in-law Kathy Gasper and Agnes Gasper   Bob was preceded in death by his parents;  a daughter, Lynn Cooper in August of 2011; and siblings Bill Gasper, Jerome Gasper, Tom Gasper, Beatrice Rathbun and Caroline Fosburg.
