Virgie Hubbard, age 90, of Orleans, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2015 at Spectrum Health, Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.  She was born on September 29, 1924, in Waldo, Kentucky, the daughter of Thomas and Liza (Conley) Wireman.  She was a strong, independent woman who worked hard to care for her family, even running moonshine when times were tough.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman Hale and her second husband, George Hubbard.  She moved to Belding when work brought her here and she worked as a seamstress for Jolly Kids and also worked in Ionia prior to retiring. Virgie enjoyed gardening and making porcelain dolls.  She was a member of Belding Free Will Baptist Church for many years while her father was pastor there.  She loved her family dearly. 

 

She leaves a loving family to cherish her memory including her children Mildred (Bill VanderMark) Yoder of Rockford, Earlie Mae (Western) Wiggins of Saranac, Roxie Fae Greenway of Belding, Farrell (Peggy) Hale of Lima, Ohio, Frieda Kay (Tony) Zambrano of Ionia, Christopher (Sandy) Hale of Orleans; 27 grandchildren; 64 great grandchildren; 52 great-great grandchildren; a brother Amos Wireman of Lima, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and friends.  In addition to her husbands, Virgie was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Velerie Jean Hale; a grandson, Kenneth Howard; 2 great grandsons, Kevin and Dustin; a great-great granddaughter, Diana; and siblings Kernie, Toy, Nancy, Richard, Lorraine and William.  

 

Services will take place on Saturday, May 23, at 2:00 p.m. at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, with Pastor William Overton officiating.  Visitation will take place prior to the service from 12 Noon until 2:00 p.m.  Interment will follow at Orleans Township Cemetery, and a luncheon will take place following at Family Life Center Church of God.  Memorial contributions are recommended to the benefit of the family.  Memorial donation envelopes and additional information are available by contacting Verdun Family Funeral Home at (616) 794-1300 or www.verdunfh.com.
