Richard Vane “Dick” Musser, age 81, passed away on Saturday, September 26, at Clark Retirement Community in Grand Rapids, surrounded by his family.  He was born on August 2, 1934, in Bowling Green, Ohio, the son of Floyd “Vane” Musser and Norma (Bowerman) Musser.  He graduated from Bowling Green High School and continued his education at Bowling Green State University and Eastern Michigan University.


Richard married Barbara E. Klos on September 5, 1955, in Fremont, Ohio, and enjoyed 57 years of marriage prior to her death in 2013.    He began his career as an industrial arts teacher in the Detroit area.  In 1974, the family moved to northern Michigan, where Dick was the Director of the Lake County Senior Citizens Meals Program for 10 years.  In addition, he was a licensed builder and formed Dick Musser & Sons Construction, where he worked on remodeling and new construction projects in and around the Baldwin area until his retirement in 1996.


Richard was a member of the Pine River Area School Board and volunteered for many worthy causes, including Habitat for Humanity.  He enjoyed hockey, camping, woodworking, and especially any activities including his family.  


Richard’s memory will be cherished by his loving family, including his six children and their spouses: Richard and Nadine of Bowling Green, Ohio; Jeffery and Barbara of Grand Haven; Nancy and Wayne Cannon of Richmond, Virginia; Martin and Terry of Luther; John and MaryEm, and Pete and Michelle, both of Grand Rapids. Richard will always be remembered fondly by his thirteen grandchildren: Clayton, Blake, Racheal, Matt, Mackenzie, Audrey, Travis, Maxwell, Carson, Braden, Brenna, Emily, and Jacob. He is also survived by his dear sister and her husband, Sally and Bill Blair of Bowling Green, Ohio. 


Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 29, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, in Baldwin, Michigan, with a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m.  Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 30, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, with Fr. Raymond Bruck and Fr. Ron Schneider presiding.   Visitation will also take place on Wednesday, for one hour prior to Mass, at the church.  Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Carr Settlement, near Baldwin.  Those wishing to express sympathy are welcomed to consider a memorial contribution in Richard’s memory to Lake County Churches Charities or St. Ann’s Lake County Senior Services.  Envelopes will be available at the services or by contacting Verdun Family Funeral Home at (616) 794-1300 or
