Gayle Kilborn, 70

Gayle Kilborn, age 70, formerly of North Kingsville, Ohio, passed away January 8, 2016, at home in Leesburg, Virginia. Born in Belding, Michigan, he grew up on the family farm. Through eighth grade, he attended Seeley School, a one-room school where he had the same teacher for eight years.

As a teenager, he worked after school and summers in his father's business, the Belding Hardware. His talent at fixing lawn mowers and riding tractors kept him busy. After graduating from Belding High School in 1963, he graduated from Michigan State University in 1967 with honors and a degree in mechanical engineering. After working in the jet engine industry, he joined Reliance Electric at the Ashtabula plant in 1977, working there until the plant closed in 2000. He then started his own consulting business, working with friends on projects that interested him. Gayle was a true "hands on" engineer, preferring to wear old jeans while he fixed broken appliances, repaired cars, and renovated his 1969 Corvette. Many happy hours were spent in his shop and at his computer as he solved mechanical issues.

Predeceased by parents, Rollo and Naomi Kilborn and brother Gary Kilborn, he is sadly missed by his wife Arlene; daughter Catherine (Wesley) Cordova of Leesburg, Virginia; son Robert of Dallas, Texas, grandchildren Joshua, Elijah, and Samantha Cordova, as well as sister Nancy (Carter) Huffman, sister-in-law Linda Bowen, and brother-in-law Fred Bowen. Those wishing to express their sympathy are welcomed to consider a contribution in Gayle’s memory to the Alvah N. Belding Public Library.  To request an envelope or for additional information, please contact Verdun family Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Belding at (616) 794-1300 or
