Carol Ann (Sawyer) Lakin, age 78, of Belding, passed away at Fountainview of Lowell and entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 29, 2016.  She was born into life on January 18, 1938 in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Robert Russell and Cleda Lucille (Brown) Sawyer.  She graduated from Portland High School and then worked in several banking positions prior to marrying the love of her life, Roger W. Lakin.  The couple exchanged vows on June 27, 1959 in Portland Baptist Church and shared 56 years of marriage.  After getting married, she enjoyed raising her family and taking care of the house and home for Roger and their two children.  Carol was a devoted member of Smyrna Bible Church for more than 40 years, serving as the Nursery Director for more than 32 of those 40 years and participating in countless dinners, bible studies and other activities with the other ladies of the church.  She was a regular at all the local school sporting events and would regularly travel to other communities to see the nieces and nephews play in sports, and traveled to Portland frequently to visit her many family members there.       

 

Carol leaves her caring husband, Roger, of Belding; and family to cherish her memory including her beloved children Timothy Craig Lakin of Belding and Cheri Ann (Brent) Westberg of Rochester Hills, and dear granddaughters Rachel and Alyssa; siblings Noel Babbitt, Constance Bennett, and Rebecca (Tod) Sims all of Portland, Thomas (Debbie) Sawyer of Fenwick and Lawrence (Rosalie) Sawyer of West Virginia; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Donnie and Bruce and a nephew Darren Babbitt. 

 

Private graveside services are being attended by the family and a memorial service on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at 11:00am at Smyrna Bible Church and officiated by Pastor Ron David.  Memorial contributions are recommended to Smyrna Bible Church and Alzheimer's Association.  Envelopes and additional service information are available by contacting Verdun Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services at (616) 794-1300 or www.verdunfh.com.
