Frederick Jerome Reeves, age 79, of Belding, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday afternoon, July 12, at Spectrum Health United Memorial Hospital in Greenville. He was born in the family farmhouse on Whites Bridge Road in Belding on April 22, 1937, the son of Hubert Francis and Irma Marian (Rowley) Reeves, both of whom preceded him in death.† Fred graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1956, and later served his country in the National Guard for four years through the Ionia Armory. He married Maryann Sue VanOcker on June 5, 1965, sharing 51 years of marriage with her.† He worked in several capacities during his lifetime, retiring as a machine operator from Jordan Manufacturing in 1999.† Farming was a lifetime occupation for him as he began helping his dad on the family farm and through the years raised livestock, grain and produce.† Fred was a member of the Belding Masonic Lodge, the Smyrna Social Club and the Smyrna Friendship Clubs for many years, and attended Smyrna Bible Church.† Fred loved antiques especially clocks and pretty much anything with wheels as evidenced by his 1931 Ford, Model A, his 1955 John Deere 70 tractor and his 1978 Chrysler New Yorker.† Fred played piano, the accordion and harmonica and would sit down to play when the spirit moved him picking up pieces by ear.† He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.†

In addition to his dear wife, Fred leaves to cherish his memory his children Jason E. Reeves of Belding and Jane A. (Aaron) Gleason of Belding; grandchildren Ashton Lee Meade, Cody Michael Reeves and Matthew Glen Gleason; a sister Eula Grace Blanding of Auburn Maine; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.† In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Eunice Clark and Sarah Scheid.†
