Darlene Douglas, age 69, of Belding, passed away on Thursday, July 21, at Spectrum Health – Extended Care in Greenville following a courageous battle with cancer.  She was born in Pontiac, Michigan on September 3, 1946, the daughter of Donald Leon and Loretta Mae (Anderson) McLaughlin, both of whom preceded her in death.  Following her graduation from Avondale High School she married James Clinton Douglas and started her family with him, relocating to Belding while the children were still young.  She worked in several capacities during her lifetime including a long time position in office management and sales with Superior Beverage in Grand Rapids, until 1986, when they closed.  She then went into business for herself operating Darlene Douglas Distributing, wholesaling meat snacks and novelties and more, until 2014.  Darlene was an active member of the American Legion, Eagles and Belding Sportsman’s Club.  She was an organizer and was always caring for her family and others.  She would step up to spearhead Christmas dinners, pot lucks, and any other event that was in need of a volunteer leader.   She had a passion for cooking and loved to share her talent with family and friends.  She loved her children and grandchildren and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

The memory of Darlene will be cherished by her children Jim (Kim) Douglas of Greenville, Wade (Angie) Douglas of Stanwood and Renee (Gene) Ellis of Grattan Township; grandchildren, Heather (David) Fletcher, Kelsey Maxwell, Sieara Douglas, Marisa Douglas, Alex Ellis, Shelby Douglas, Austin Douglas and Garrett Ellis; great grandchildren, Ryder Fletcher and Liam Maxwell; siblings Dale McLaughlin, Duane (Diane) McLaughlin, Dwight (Judy) McLaughlin, Danny (Faradilla) McLaughlin, David (Kim) McLaughlin and Donetta McLaughlin; and many nieces nephews, cousins and friends.  In addition to her parents, Darlene was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Aisha and a sister-in-law, Aleta McLaughlin.
