Betty Rose (Laney) Bray, 89

Betty Rose (n.e.e. Laney) Bray, age 89, of Allen Park, passed away, at Rivergate Terrace where she has spent the last 6 years in the Alzheimers Unit, on Thursday, July 28, 2016. She was born in Lincoln Park, Michigan, on December 4, 1926, the daughter of Grover and Rosa (Kurtz) Laney. Betty graduated from Lincoln Park High School. She xchanged vows with the love of her life, Charles T. Bray, on March 22, 1947, at Lincoln Park Methodist Church, and enjoyed 68 years of marriage with him. Chuck preceded her in death on January 31, 2016. Betty worked at Michigan Central Rail Road in Detroit and retired from Sears & Roebuck, Lincoln Park after 30+ years. She served on many boards and committees over the years and was an active member of The Allen Park Overture Society, Allen Park Questers, and Kiwanians. She and her husband Chuck were active members of Allen Park Presbyterian Church since 1953. Betty enjoyed music, sang in the church choir and was an avid golfer and gardener. She will be forever loved and warmly remembered for her kind nature and ever present smile.

 

Betty leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Cathy Bray of Allen Park, Claudia Jim) Georges of Hudson, and Connie (Gregg) Brighton of Allen Park; grandchildren Ryan (Lisa) Studzinski, Eryn West, Bryan (Bryn) Brighton and Derek (Kala) Brighton; great grandchildren, Tavian and Meka West and Dominic and Isaac Studzinski; step-grandchildren, Jill (Shawn) Wilmot and Jenny (Ryan) Stolmeier; step great-grandchildren, CJ and Jalynn Wilmot and Reagan Stolmeier; brother, G. Lewis (Marge) Laney of Venice Florida; and several nieces, nephews and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Maurice Laney, and three sisters, Dorothy Ralston, Florence Stockton and Paula Gardner.

 

A Memorial service celebrating both Betty and Chuck’s lives will take place on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Allen Park Presbyterian Church 7101 Park Avenue, Allen Park, Michigan 48101. Visitation with the family is at 10 AM in the parlor, a luncheon will follow the memorial in the fellowship hall. Those considering an expression of sympathy are welcomed to consider a memorial contribution in their memory to Allen Park Presbyterian Church, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
