Ernest E. "Ernie" Barnett

Ernest Earl “Ernie” Barnett, age 67, of Belding, passed away early at 4:31 a.m. on Saturday morning, May 13, 2023, at Corewell Health – Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, following a brief illness. Ernie was born on October 20, 1955, in Billings, Montana, son of Robert Lane and Florence Edith (Ingersoll) Barnett, both of whom preceded him in death. He graduated from Dolgeville, New York, High School, completed a year of college coursework at Delhi College, and was a member of the United States Navy, for four years, earning the rank of Bosun's Mate, Class III. . Following his service to his country, he worked in manufacturing, retiring as a Maintenance Supervisor. While still in the military, he exchanged vows with Faith A. Sommer in Rota, Spain, and they have shared 46 years of marriage. Ernie enjoyed wood working, bird watching, and studying rocks, as an amateur geologist. He loved spending time with his family and seemed to have music playing all the time. He was a member of Green Corners Baptist Church.

Ernie leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Faith, his children Annisa M. Barnett-Denman and Nicole D. Barnett-Dines; grandchildren, Olivia Mae Denman and Onyx Dines; siblings, Cindy M. Barnett-Near and Carl (Cherilyn) E. Barnett; and multiple aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Patrick A. Barnett and Roberta J. Barnett-Mansell.

A Funeral will take place on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Green Corners Baptist Church, 4998 Belding Road, Belding, Michigan 48809, with Pastor Paul Leslie Officiating. The family will greet visitors for an hour prior to the service at church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment is being planned for a future date at Green Corners Cemetery.
