Anna Theresa (Zimmerman) Nielsen, age 97, of Belding, Michigan, passed away at home early Saturday morning, December 21, 2024, under hospice care with her caring family at her bedside. Anna was born in Hamtramck December 28, 1926, daughter of Anthony and Pauline (Duk) Zimmerman, both of whom preceded her in death. Anna relocated to Belding while in her youth and graduated from Belding High School. She married Vern E. Nielsen and shared 65 years of marriage with him prior to his death in 2017. She worked for many years as a secretary at Gibsons/Electrolux, taking breaks when her sons were born, and retired in the late 1980’s.
Anna and Vern enjoyed retirement, wintering in Homosassa Florida and traveling with friends. Memorable trips included riding a motorcycle out west and driving a motorhome to Alaska. They also visited Hawaii. Anna loved to garden, play games and visit with friends and family.
Anna is survived by her sons, Ben (Carol) Nielsen and Jim (Denise) Nielsen, both of Belding; grandchildren Andrew (Bridget) Nielsen of Rockford, Luke (Kaitlyn) Nielsen of Belding, Ashley (John) Keene of Mona Shores, and Elle (Matt) Kemp of Jenison; great grandchildren, Lincoln, Roman, Wesley, John, Mabel, and Wally; a brother, Dan Zimmerman of Belding; and a sister-in-law, Barb Zimmerman of Greenville. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary White and a brother, Lenny Zimmerman.
A Funeral Mass for Anna will take place on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 403 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan, with Fr. Jim Wyse the Celebrant. The family will greet visitors at the church for an hour prior to the Mass on Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment next to her husband, Vern will take place at Ashley Cemetery. Memorial contributions are recommended to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
