Bernard Arthur Rooker

Bernard Arthur ‘Bernie” Rooker, age 68, of Ionia, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024, at U of M West, Metropolitan Hospital in Grand Rapids following a brief illness. He was born on October 4, 1956, son of Robert E. and Alice M. (Lincoln) Rooker, both of whom preceded him in death. Bernie graduated from Forest Hills Central High School and continued his education at Davenport University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. He worked at Amway Corporation for 35-plus years promoting his way up to Group Manager prior to his retirement about 10 years ago. He had a fun and exciting retirement surrounding himself with family and friends as much as possible. He loved sitting around a table or elsewhere and listening to stories and jokes and could tell great ones too. He was a tinkerer and would spend countless hours in the shop fixing things or fabricating new creations, such as the several trike style motorcycles he built over the years. One of Bernie’s favorite activities was spending time at Keenan Marina, where he formed many lasting friendships with folks he loved spending time with throughout his life. 

Bernie is survived by his son, Don Rooker of Ada; grandchildren, Amaya Hansen, Grayden Rooker, Donavan Rooker, Elijah Rooker and Lucas Rooker; the love of his life and best friend, Peg Rooker of Lowell; siblings Carl (Janet) Rooker and Gail (Marty) Staal all of Ada; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many great friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles and cousins. 

A Celebration of Life Gathering will take place on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan 48809. The family will greet visitors beginning at 1:00 p.m. and the service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Those wishing to express sympathy are welcome to consider a memorial contribution to the wishes of the family.
