Dala Laverne (Richmond) Granzo, age 78, of Belding, died early Monday morning, October 28, at Corewell Health Blodgett Hospital in East Grand Rapids. She was born December 1, 1945, in Belding, daughter of Dale S. and Theda Jane (Devine) Richmond, both of whom preceded her in death. Dala and her mother, Theda, completed high school as non-traditional students and walked proudly across the stage together, receiving their Diploma’s the same year as Dala’s daughter, Cindy, who was graduating with Belding High School, Class of 1982. Dala married the love of her life, Roger Granzo on June 28, 1969, and shared 55 years with him as husband and wife. Dala worked for the City of Belding in several capacities through the years including Administrative Support roles at both the Police Department and the D.P.W. and helped at Dial-a-Ride as well. She became a certified EMT and also worked part-time for Johnson Feuerstein Funeral Home for several years prior to fully retiring. Dala kept busy with several pastimes including making jewelry to wear and to give as gifts, as well as painting and decorating their home. She served in the police and firefighters reserves helping with many events and safety projects, such as taking coffee to fire scenes and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and worked on the Belding Labor Day Committee organizing the parade for nearly twenty years. She and Roger enjoyed taking their Monte Carlo and Pontiac GTO to area car shows and truly enjoyed the many friends they made.
Dala leaves to cherish her memory, her dear husband Roger, her children, Cindy (Joe) Zahm, John (Cheryl) Granzo, and Jerri Totch all of Belding; her grandchildren, Leah (Drew) Griffioen of Rockford, Allison (David) Thalmann of Smyrna, Tennessee, Brendon (Glenna) Zahm of Belding, Destiny (Adam) Villalobos of Detroit and Casey (Paxton) Wirtz of Ionia; great grandchildren, Silas, Landon, Dean, MJ, Gavin, Rae, and Sawyer; a sister-in-law, Gene (Mike) Colon of Lakeview; dear friends Gary and Gale Olger; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many other dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gary “Bub” Richmond.
Visitation will be hosted at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, on Friday, November 1st, from 6-8p.m. Dala’s Funeral will take place on Saturday, November 2, at 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Otisco Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Dala’s name are suggested to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the American Heart Association.
