Dennis Hugh Harris Sr., age 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday October 17th, 2021. Born to Elden Hugh and Marion Jean Harris in Flint, Michigan, where he resided until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at age 18. Dennis completed Basic Training at Paris Island, SC, and was later based in Subic-Bay, Philippines. While in the Philippines Dennis met his forever love and soul mate, Remedios, Mercy. After a whirlwind romance they married, staying together for over 52 years.
Together they had seven children, Irene (Paul) Smith, Bonnie (Andrew) Gessler, David (Karrie) Harris, Ammie (Mike) Olmstead, Dennis (Mary) Harris JR., Cathy (Don) Hintz, Kim (Jason) Golombisky. They had 20 grandchildren, Brent Stewart, Titiana Lyons, Katherine Stewart, Lucas Silvernail, Matthew Silvernail, Kyle Harris, Dezirae Perea, Lauren Herring, Dylan Meyers, Monica Meyers, Hannah Harris, Logan Harris, Zack Hintz, Anastasia Hintz, Lawrence Patrick, Alex Patrick, John Patrick, Michael Patrick, Jade Golombisky, Jasmine Golombisky. They were very proud of their nine great grandchildren and were very excited to be expecting another one soon. He was preceded in death by his parents Elden Hugh and Marion Jean (Kinsman) Harris, sister; Bonnie Jean Harris, His beautiful wife; Remedios Flores (Ballecer) Harris; grandchildren Kailey Stewart and Brandon Stewart.
Dennis was the proud owner of Crowne Hobby Raceway as well as D’ Manilla Coffee. He loved Nascar Racing, Dancing with his beloved wife, spending time with family and reminiscing about the “good ol’ days”. He spent his final days at home with his son, Dennis “JR”. He was loved in life and will be loved and missed by those who loved him most...his children.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Verdun Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding. The family will greet visitors beginning at 11:00 a.m. and the funeral rite will begin at 1:00 p.m. Services will conclude with Military Honors provided by the Belding combined Honors Team, comprised of members of the VFW and American Legion and an Honors Team dispatched by the Marine Corps. Graveside Prayers will take place at River Ridge Cemetery in Belding at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, May 14, 2022, with Fr. Tom Brown officiating.
