DOLORES “JANE” (COCHRAN) HUGHES, age 84, of Greenville, formerly of Grand Rapids and Belding, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2020, at Green Acres of Cedar Springs. She was born on June 27, 1936, in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Horace L. and Louise M. (Fallert) Cochran. She graduated from Dayton schools and later married John “Jack” Hughes in Dayton on September 10, 1955. She kept busy raising her 6 children and managing the family home. Jane was also a committed volunteer to Butterworth Hospital in several capacities including the Junior Diet Kitchen Guild. She was a great cook and she and Jack, along with several other couples, formed the “Gourmet Dinner Club” and hosted each other for dinner on a rotation for many years. She enjoyed traveling, with Jack and, on her own, following his death. Jane also found time to paint and loved spending time on a golf course with friends, and if her game went well it was a bonus. Through the years, she was a member of Blessed Sacrament, St. Charles and St. Joseph Catholic Churches, and taught CCD Classes at St. Joseph for several years.
The memory of Jane will be cherished by her children, Robert (Sherri) Hughes of Belding, Roberta (Bob) Mulholland of Greenville, Penny Hughes-Chase of Grand Rapids, Brian (Cindy) Hughes of Belding and Heather (Bill) Biggs of Rockford; grandchildren Bobby (Kristi) Hughes, John (Jade) Hughes, Michael (Danielle Duval) Mulholland, Kristy Chase, J.R. Chase, Bradley Hughes, Tiffany (Billy) Carroll, Steven Hughes, Billy (Jamie) Biggs and Nikki (Hunter Haight) Biggs; great grandchildren Jack, Avery, Matthew and Jackson; two sisters, Louise Free and Roberta Emerson; a brother-in-law Ronald Wampler; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph; a sister, Patricia Wampler and a brother, Jerry Cochran.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 409 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan 48809, with Fr. Mark Bauer the Celebrant.
