Doris J. Ferrier

Doris Jean (Heintz) Ferrier, age 87, of Wyoming, Michigan, formerly of Stanton and Lansing, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Medi-Lodge of Wyoming under hospice care. She was born on August 28, 1937, daughter of John G. and Dora M. (Canfield) Heintz, both of whom preceded her in death. After completing high school, she continued her education at Lansing Community College completing an Associate Degree in Business. Doris married Albert A. Ferrier on September 24, 1966, and he preceded her in death on February 5, 2022. She worked for many years as a Switchboard Operator at Michigan State University in East Lansing and following her retirement, she has always remained a loyal Michigan State sports fan. In her spare time, Doris enjoyed fishing and camping with Albert, and pretty much any time spent outdoors. She was not too interested in housework but could tear down and put an engine back together like a champ. Doris spent as much time as possible with the grandchildren and kept plenty busy otherwise as a regular on the local B.I.N.G.O. hall circuit and faithfully made a weekly trip to the beauty parlor. She also spent countless hours over the span of many years as an Al Anon sponsor, shepherding many others through the challenges of loving someone who suffers with alcohol or drug addiction. 

Doris is survived by her son, William A. Ferrier, Sr., of Beulah; grandchildren Dora Ferrier of Grand Rapids, William A. (Jen) Ferrier, Jr., of Greenville, MI, Robert Ferrier of Muskegon, MI, and Rainbow Yadak of St. Louis, MO; 9 great grandchildren; siblings, Kathryn Farlin of Lansing and Dean Heintz of California; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by siblings Kenneth, Earl and Merton; and a daughter-in-law, Donna B. Ferrier.

A Funeral Service will take place on Monday, November 18, 2024, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan 48809, with Pastor Paul Hulford officiating. The family will greet visitors at the funeral home beginning at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memory Gardens north of Belding.
