Douglas Edward “Doug” DeRosia, age 62, of Charlotte, passed away at home under hospice care surrounded by his loving family on Monday, January 2, 2017. He was born in Bay City, Michigan, on February 11, 1954, the son of Kenneth Leroy and Lillian Mae (Harrison) DeRosia. Following high school, Doug joined General Motors and worked in their assembly operations for many years, retiring several years ago. He exchanged vows with Vicky Linn Stardevant on June 24, 1972, in Lansing and she survives. Doug enjoyed hunting, was an avid golfer and thoroughly loved spending time up north entertaining family and friends at the cottage near Higgins Lake. He was a member of the Houghton Lake Moose Lodge and the Charlotte Eagles Club.
In addition to his dear wife, Vicky, Doug will be missed and remembered by his children, Shoni (Kevin) Sharp of Springport, Kathy (Jason) Hubbert of Belding and Sherrie (Dan) Hewitt of Springport; grandchildren, Justin Sharp, Sarah Sharp, Trevor Hewitt, Alex Hubbert, Maddison Hubbert, Trent Hewitt and Morgan Hewitt; his mother, Lillian M. DeRosia of Cheboygan; brothers, Kenneth DeRosia, Roger (Linda) DeRosia and Bruce (Patty) DeRosia; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Doug was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth L. DeRosia.
A life celebration and memorial luncheon will take place at the Charlotte American Legion Hall on Saturday, January 14, at 2:00 p.m. A fund has been established at MSU Federal Credit Union to receive donations, which will be donated to charities near and dear to Doug’s heart.
