Henry Barry Huyck, age 71, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Cedar Springs, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital. He was born on July 18, 1949, in Battle Creek, Michigan, son of Eli Jay and Margaret Lucinda ( Sower ) Huyck, both of whom preceded him in death. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. Henry’s family was active in Scouting and he participated as well, excelling as a Boy Scout and an Explorer Scout. Following high school, he completed courses to ready him for work as a tire and auto body technician, which he did for many years. Henry also enjoyed a brief stint as a bartender which gave him opportunity to interact with many different people, and most recently prior to retirement he was an upholsterer for a furniture manufacturer. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cathy in 1974, and later, exchanged wedding vows with Sandra Kay Taylor, who preceded him in death in 2009. He previously attended Coit Avenue Community Church and Pioneer Christian Reformed Church and was most recently a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Grand Rapids. He enjoyed several pastimes including playing guitar, singing and crocheting.
Henry leaves behind, his sons, Troy Henry Charles Huyck and George Paul Huyck; a grandson, Ivan Taylor Huyck; siblings, Wanda (Edward) Huyck Zimmerman, Ronald Huyck and Margot Huyck Minchew; several nieces, nephews and many great nieces and nephews; and several other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Trinity Baptist Church, 2050 Aberdeen St., NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49505. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will take place next to his wife Sandra at Banfield Cemetery in Johnstown Township, near Battle Creek. Those wishing to express sympathy are welcomed to consider a contribution to the activities program at Pilgrim Manor or Trinity Baptist Church.
