Kevin S. Clayton

Kevin Scott Clayton, age 59, of Ionia, passed away at home under hospice care surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. He was born in Ionia, Michigan, on June 25, 1963, son of Kenneth Clayton and Mildred Yoder. He attended Saranac Schools and worked as a self-employed carpenter, specializing in home improvement and exterior remodel projects. He exchanged vows with Tonya Jo Tate on October 7, 2006, at the Nazarene Church in Ionia and has shared nearly 17 years of marriage with her. Kevin was an avid hunter and fisherman, taking advantage of local opportunities to enjoy nature whenever he could. He also loved to plan a trip to check out and enjoy a new hot spot for fishing or hunting that he had heard about. He enjoyed playing softball and was active in adult leagues as long as his health allowed. He also enjoyed time around his own home where he used his green thumb to care for his garden each year.

Kevin leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Mildred Yoder of Rockford; his dear wife, Tonya; children, Hadlie Clayton of Ionia and Raven (Sarita) Perez of Holland; grandchildren, Aubree, Kylie, and Braylee Clayton and Iliana, Neveah, Mya, and Dani Perez; a sister, Diana Wilson of Grand Rapids; nieces and nephews, Kenneth (Sarah) Clayton, Kristin Szymanski, Michael (Vanity) Clayton, Justin (Jessica) Clayton, Emily Wilson, and several other nieces nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends. Kevin was preceded in death by his father, a son, Kevin S. Clayton II; two brothers, Kenneth ‘Pork”, and Dale; and a nephew, Ronnie McQueen.

A Funeral Service will take place on Monday, May 1, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., at Verdun Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, with Pastor Jennifer Lien, officiating. The family will greet visitors at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at River Ridge Cemetery, Belding.
