Richard W. Sloan, age 67, of Hillsdale, formerly of Grandville, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Ascension-Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born on February 27, 1957, son of Russell F. and Donna C. (Litesy) Sloan, both of whom preceded him in death. Richard graduated from Bedford High School and worked for 17 years at Kerkstra Cement Products Company in Grandville, a job which he loved doing. He married Pamela M. Mosier on April 14, 2004, in Rockford, Michigan, and she preceded him in death in 2022. As a couple Richard and Pam enjoyed many activities and hobbies including weekly bowling leagues, regular attendance at Berlin Raceway events, fishing, going to Whitecap’s baseball games and watching NASCAR and the Andy Griffith Show, along with other sporting events on t.v. Richard loved spending time with family and friends, especially the kids and grandkids and moved to Hillsdale following Pam’s passing to be nearer to them.
Richard will be dearly missed by his children, Rob (Sandra) Sloan of Inverness, Florida, Michelle (Chris) Staten of Hillsdale, Michigan; Richard, Jr (Cheryl) Sloan of Illinois, and stepson, Josh (Terra Ehlert of Carson City, Michigan; grandchildren Alyssa, Tyler, Alanna, Robby, Madelyn, Lexi, Lilly, Dean Jr., Annabelle, Caden, Rileigh, Emile, Grady, Colby, Jacelynn, and Amelia; a sister, Kathy Hetherwick of Lambertville, Michigan; a step sister, Marilyn (Walter Potts) Mills; a step-brother, Joel Mills; brothers- and sisters-in-law Kathy Palmer of Greenville, Michigan, Bobby Seely of Belding, and Carla Seely of Louisiana; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Don Sloan and Russ Sloan; stepdaughters, Angela and Amanda Ehlert, his stepfather, Wayne Mills; a stepbrother Tim Mills; a brother-in-law, James Seely and a sister-in-law, Sandy Neumann.
Richard’s family is planning a Celebration of Life gathering to take place at a later date, and that information will be updated to this site when those plans are confirmed.
