Sharon Kay (Mickelson) Hodges, age 77, of Highland, Michigan, passed away at Hathaway Hills Assisted Living Center in Greenville, under hospice care on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
Sharon was born June 1, 1947, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, daughter of LaMoine F. and Sylvia M. (Redman) Mickelson, both of whom preceded her in death. She relocated to Michigan while in her youth with her mom and graduated from Milford High School. Her mom later married Jack Osborne and he raised her as his own daughter. She retired from Hi Mill Manufacturing with more than 30 years of service, and was successful in working with the ownership there, in improving working conditions and pay for the women employees. She married the love of her life, Gordon Hodges on July 23, 1983, and he left her much too early, passing away in 1997. She often said she was lucky to have the few years she did, rather than never having him in her life.
Sharon always lived by guide that if you did the right thing, you would have no regrets and shared that philosophy often. She loved to read and spend time with family and friends, whether it was a card party, dance event, bowling tournament or one of many trips to far away destinations or the casino, where she was almost always successful. No matter the occasion, there was always plenty of shenanigans and laughter.
Sharon is survived by her children, Christian Baetz of Belton, Texas, and Melissa Muse of Northville, Michigan; stepchildren Cindy (Steve Wodarek) Hodges of Gowen, Michigan Gordon (Nancy) Hodges of Traverse City, Michigan. Denise (Keith) Webster of Northville, Michigan; grandchildren, Katelyn Vantine of Pontiac, Michigan, Cody Baetz of Belton, Texas, Erik (Elyssa) Frasier of Detroit, Michigan, Emma Frasier of Chicago, Illinois, Ethan Wodarek of Grand Rapids, Michigan; a brother, Jerry Mickelson; long term friend and companion, John Poquette; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends both new and old.
A Graveside Service will take place on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 12:30 p.m., at Highland Cemetery, 561 N. Milford Road, Highland, Michigan 48357, where she will be laid to rest next to Gordon.
