Todd Curtis Setchfield, age 60 of Ada, formerly of Belding, passed away on October 6, 2023, at Corewell Health – Butterworth hospital in Grand Rapids surrounded by his loving family, following an unexpected illness.
He was born April 3, 1963, son of William E. Setchfield and Kendra S. Bailey. He was raised in Belding and graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1981. Todd was a great basketball player for the Belding Redskins and took up trampolining as a hobby, which led to him being noticed by a local coach. With just a couple weeks of practice, he began competing and soon won national recognition for his skills. He even traveled Europe with a group called the New Olympians competing and performing on the trampoline. Following high school, he entered the United States Navy and served his country for ten years prior to returning to civilian life. Todd exchanged vows with Paula Jean Mitchell on July 19, 1986, and shared 34 years of marriage with her prior to her death in 2021. Todd was a devoted husband and cared for Paula through a long battle with leukemia. Todd and Paula owned and operated Alliant Mortgage Company for many years and following its closing he worked as a maintenance mechanic for Lacks Industries in Grand Rapids. Todd was a caring father to his children and was always there for them. He enjoyed camping with his family, and yearly trips to Pensacola Beach, Florida and Cedar Point. Todd had many friends and took great pride in supporting them in their lives.
Todd is survived by his dear children Taylor Setchfield and Dylan Setchfield, both of Ada, his mother Kendra Bailey of Belding, his father William E. (Beth) Setchfield of Belmont, sisters, Teila Bauer of Grand Rapids and Kelli (Emory) Setchfield Rhoades of North Carolina and a niece Lillian and a nephew EJ as well as an uncle James Setchfield of Grand Rapids. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his grandparents and his step-father, John “Jack” Bailey.
